Clinical Laboratory Specialist
Duties and Responsibilities: Clinical
Laboratory Specialist contain two lines of work laboratory technicians (medical
laboratory technicians) and clinical technologists (medical technologists).
Both of these lines of work, work in a laboratory to diagnose, identify and
treat diseases. Laboratory technicians use microscopes, computers, and
laboratory equipment to perform laboratory procedures. They also collect data
for physicians, collect blood specimens and prepare cultural media. Clinical
technologists have a more complex job, they supervise laboratory technicians,
conduct difficult laboratory test, and manage laboratory quality control. They
work in hospitals, for private companies, medical groups, universities,
research laboratories, and pharmaceutical companies.
Salary: $20,000-$28,000
( clinical laboratory technicians)
$25,000-$40,000(clinical technologist)
Education: In high school
students should take the most challenging math, English, and science courses.
To become a technician all that is required is an associate’s degree and
training. In order to become technologists you need to have a bachelor’s
degree, although some jobs take experience over degrees
I would not like to become a clinical laboratory specialist because it doesn't seem to interesting, I would like to become more in contact with the patients involved in the world not stuck in a laboratory. Maybe if more testing were involved I would consider the job.
